Meet the Director: Mr. Bill Barrett
Mr. Barrett was previously the Director of Music at Yucca Valley High School from 1999-2021. He took a break from teaching from 2021-2025 and is excited to be returning to YVHS.
Mr. Barrett is a graduate of Ohio Northern University where he earned his Bachelors of Music in Music Education. He plays trumpet and piano, and his voice type is baritone/bass. Mr. Barrett is an accomplished trumpet player; he has been playing since age 10. He continues to play locally as often as the opportunity presents itself. He is a member of the funk & soul band Desert Sōl and has performed with the JPhil. His trumpet playing can be heard on the Orquesta del Desierto album, DOS. When he lived in Texas from 2021-2025 he played with numerous ensembles including: the Abilene Community Band, the Hardin Simmons University Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band, the McMurry University Wind Ensemble, the West Texas Jazz Orchestra, the Basin Big Band, the National Swing Band of Texas, and Current 9.
Mr. Barrett is passionate about every aspect of music education, including music performance, music theory, and music history.
